As Macduff in the Shakespearean play MACBETH


The Shakespearean play MACBETH was staged in the British Council Auditorium, Chennai in the late 70s. Mr. Ramanathan was Macduff while Mr. P C Ramakrishna was Macbeth. Ms Bhageerathi played the role of Lady Macbeth. The sword fight scene between Macbeth and Macduff was applauded and interesting to watch.

Mr. Ramanathan is fifth from right and Mr Ramakrishna is third from right. Ms Bhageerathi is seated on the left.





As an actor in English plays...Harold Pinter's Old Times.

Mr. Ramanathan was a versatile stage actor. He has acted in several stage plays in English and Tamil. He acted in the lead role in Harold Pinter's Old Times staged in the auditorium of British Council, Madras (Chennai) in the late 70s. His co actors were MsVishalam (English Newsreader in television in the 70s) and Ms Bhageerathi.

Mr. Ramanathan also acted in the Shakespearean  play MACBETH also performed in the British Council. He played the role of Macduff while Mr. P C Ramakrishna of the Madras Players was Macbeth. It was interesting to watch a sword fight between the two.

Mr. S Ramanathan as a Freelance writer...

Mr.Ramanathan's writings were published in a few American magazines...This one was about the Tamil scholar, Thiruvalluvar published in QUINTO LINGO in 1964...

The Tamil writing in Indian ink is handwritten by Mr. S Ramanathan. He had a beautiful handwriting, both in English as well as Tamil. His father had engaged an instructor to train him in good handwriting in his childhood.

Kembar (Twin sisters)...(1950)


KEMBAR or Twin Sisters, was the first Malay film Written and Directed by Mr. S Ramanathan in 1950. MARIAM acted in the lead role playing a dual role and paired with her was M Amin

The movie was shot in various places, some of them one may not recognize today because of the tremendous changes.  

Scenes were shot at The Carousel, the Ferris Wheel and the Bumper Cars at the "NEW WORLD" or "GREAT WORLD" Amusement Park. As an added attraction, the procession of illuminated floats to celebrate the Royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten (20th Nov. 1947) is shown as the place where one of the twin sisters get lost. You can also see the coastal Malay Kampong and the Singapore Turf Club at Bukit Timah.
